More Than a Number: My Journey and Why Pathfinder Care Stands With You.

I Know What It Feels Like to Be Counted as Just Another Statistic

For years, I struggled with addiction. I saw its impact—not just on me, but on my family, friendships, and future. I know what it’s like to feel trapped, to want help but not know where to turn. And I know the deep shame that keeps so many people from reaching out.

That’s exactly why I co-founded Pathfinder Care. Recovery shouldn’t be impossible to access, and no one should feel like they have to fight this battle alone.

The Crisis in Our Communities: What the Numbers Don’t Tell You

We often talk about addiction in terms of statistics because the numbers are staggering. However, behind every percentage point is a person—someone like me. Someone like you.

Consider what’s happening in our own backyard:

  • Opioid Overdose Deaths in Anoka County – In 2022, opioid-related deaths averaged 22.9 per 100,000 people. In other words, that’s not just a number. That’s families losing loved ones and communities mourning their neighbors.
  • Alcohol & Substance Use – Nearly 1 in 3 adults in the Twin Cities metro area reported binge drinking in the past month, and 15.7% used illicit drugs in the past year. Clearly, these aren’t just statistics; these are people self-medicating, struggling, trying to hold it all together.
  • The Connection Between Addiction & Mental Health – More than 158,000 people in our area have faced a major depression in the past year. As someone who has been there, I know firsthand how mental health and substance use go hand in hand—and how important it is to treat both.

I don’t need a report to tell me that addiction is tearing lives apart in Anoka and Ramsey Counties. Every day, I see it with my own eyes. Yet, I also see something else.

I see hope.

Why Pathfinder Care Stands in the Gap

I didn’t choose to open Pathfinder Care here by accident. On the contrary, this is where people need help the most.

I know what it’s like to want treatment but worry about taking time off work or leaving family behind. That’s precisely why we focus on outpatient care—so people can get the support they need without putting their lives on hold.

I know what it’s like to feel judged. Therefore, our doors are open to everyone, without stigma or shame.

I know how overwhelming recovery can feel. For that reason, we focus on practical, evidence-based support that makes healing possible—no matter where someone is starting from.

You Are More Than a Statistic

I’ve been where you are. And yet, I’m standing here today because someone believed in me and gave me a second chance.

Pathfinder Care is here to do the same for you.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please don’t wait. Reach out today. We see you, we hear you, and we’re here to help.

Recovery is possible. After all, I’m living proof.

Let’s take this step together.
